Plan of Action

One day away from a brand new year!  We have our goals set, now I think we need a plan of action to make sure we achieve these goals.

Here is how I intend to succeed this year:

– Positive attitude and never giving up (Goonies never say die!—I have been on a Goonies kick lately)

– Recording my eating habits and exercises in MyFitnessPal daily (even weekends which is when I tend to eat worse)

– Planning and writing out my meals and exercises for each week

– Look up tips for exercise and training for 5Ks

– Continue reading health articles (I like the Yahoo health page a lot)

– Find a clever way to reward myself for hard work (I’ve read that it is helpful to promise yourself things such as new clothes after you lose 10 lbs, that way you feel good because the clothes will fit differently and happy because you get new clothes!)

Now….time to party for the new year!

2012 Goals

So… here’s the thing. I already feel ridiculously behind you two due to the fact that I’ve been eating everything in sight for the past month and haven’t worked out in… well let’s not get into that. I’m not looking for sympathy or “aawww don’t say that”, it’s a fact that I have much further to go than either of you overall.

On that note, Goal 1: I will try my best to stay positive about this and not feel defeated up front.

Goal 2: Run a 5k by May 6. Work my way up to a half marathon in Spring 2013.

Goal 3: Get and stay below 120 pounds. Simply because it is the mid to upper range of my healthy BMI and I’d like to get back to that.

Goal 4: Workout at least three times a week. Bike to work on nice days!

Goal 5: Start doing yoga/ pilates again.

Goal 6: Learn one new fitness skill (dancing, trapeze artistry, ninjaing…)

Goal 7: Eat healthy- to me this means eating local, seasonal, and sustainable as much as possible in addition to basic healthy eating. Be good to my body and the world. Hippy dippy world peace yo.

Goal 8: Start cooking for myself. I want to cook healthy and affordable food, but I also really want to learn traditional Italian and Polish cooking. Events this year have made me want to understand and preserve family traditions and I think I can combine that with this.

Goal 9: Feel comfortable in my body. This will be the hardest for me I think.

Goal 10: Actually stick to this. Like Sandy, I am awful at following through with things. So hold me accountable- I will probably hate you for about 20 minutes, but I’ll get over it and be thankful in the long run. I promise.

Also, some personal goals. Just so they’re out there and someone can hold me accoutable for them.

1. New job

2. Start a photography/ art blog and keep it updated.

3. Update my personal website

4. Complete the “Gentile Project”

5. Be overall more positive in everyday life. Try not to be as angry, bitter, jealous blah blah blah.

6. Save money

7. Be open to new experiences. Don’t put anything off. Carpe diem. Say yes to the right things, learn to say no to people. All that stuff.

8. You guys will think I’m crazy- but take more pictures and DO SOMETHING WITH THEM other than just putting them on facebook.

9. Find the perfect wedding dress (awww)

10. Because I like even numbers… enjoy life. As my Dad says “Everything in moderation, including moderation”. be healthy, but have fun. 🙂

That’s it. Longest post award. I can’t wait to get started!

Tina Fey & Women’s Body Image

Andrew and I got Tina Fey’s “Bossypants” audiobook from the library yesterday.  What an awesomely hilarious woman.

“But I think the first real change in women’s body image came when JLo turned it butt-style. That was the first time that having a large-scale situation in the back was part of mainstream American beauty. Girls wanted butts now. Men were free to admit that they had always enjoyed them. And then, what felt like moments later, boom—Beyoncé brought the leg meat. A back porch and thick muscular legs were now widely admired. And from that day forward, women embraced their diversity and realized that all shapes and sizes are beautiful. Ah ha ha. No. I’m totally messing with you. All Beyonce and JLo have done is add to the laundry list of attributes women must have to qualify as beautiful. Now every girl is expected to have Caucasian blue eyes, full Spanish lips, a classic button nose, hairless Asian skin with a California tan, a Jamaican dance hall ass, long Swedish legs, small Japanese feet, the abs of a lesbian gym owner, the hips of a nine-year-old boy, the arms of Michelle Obama, and doll tits. The person closest to actually achieving this look is Kim Kardashian, who, as we know, was made by Russian scientists to sabotage our athletes.”

2012 Health Goals

As you may or may not know, I LOVE setting goals.  Below are some Health/fitness goals that I have set as “to do” by July:

– Visit the gym at least 14x a month (This should be easy right?  Apparently not for me…)

– Do 30 pushups in a row (I am certain I can complete this by July)

– Go on a 10 mile bike ride.

As much as I’d love to set a weight that I’d like to be at by this time next year, I feel that it is unnecessary.  Last year I had a few good months there of quality exercise and healthier eating-  it felt good.  I would like to get back to a place where I just feel good about myself because of how I am living and treating my body.  I feel that this is an awesome start for all of us to be happy with us 🙂

So, my new goals for the year Twenty-twelve include:

– Limiting my daily sugar intake (So less sugar from junk, more from fruits)

– Staying within my daily calorie limit through proper meals and healthy snacking

– Adding variety to my meals (This one will be tricky for me and I will definitely need help from you girls!)

– Do more cardio to help get my heart rate to a normal level during exercise (it gets ridiculously high)

Good start!  Excited for the new years party and an amazing 2012!

My 2012 Goals and Expectations

Posting our goals for the year is a fantastic idea! Especially since I always make new ones at the start of the year, but then never tell anyone. No surprise, I’ve never been able to follow through on any of them.

My one event type goal for this year is to run a half marathon this summer. I’ve definitely expressed my interest before, but I know I should post it here to make sure I don’t chicken out of it. To prepare for it, I’ve been planning on running a handful of 5k/8k/10k races leading into the summer. SO, Patrice, I’ll be there with you for any and all races this year.

Another goal of mine is to pace my eating. I have the tendency to binge eat–especially late at night. And now that there isn’t another person around me late at night to hold me accountable, I need to learn the self control. Or replace my late night binge cravings with a healthier alternative/distraction.

My third goal is to write in our blog everyday. I tend to lose interest in things pretty quickly and I know I’ll keep trying to put it off. This is definitely where I need you all–to call me out if I miss a post! I used to journal every single day when I was younger like my life depended on it; I need to get back into that mindset.

These are my three big goals for this year apart from the obvious ones like working out regularly, lose a few pounds, and eating healthy everyday.

I’m really excited to start and very proud of us! 🙂

First Post and 5Ks!

So I was thinking as a way to kick off this blog, we should all post our personal goals for the year.

One of my goals this year is to run a 5k before my birthday, which as we all know is May 6 AKA best day of the year.

I found this website that has a few Chicago area based races taking place this year. I definitely plan on doing the Long Grove St Paddy’s 5K on March 11 and maybe the Chi Town 10K on April 1.

I thought it may be fun if you guys would like to join me! It’s $30 for the St Paddy’s race and $40 for the Chi Town race.

Also if you see any other races in the area, I’d be totally down! I figure if I have a set date to be kind of in shape by, it’d be more motivational than saying “I want to do something sometime this year maybe”.

Let me know what you think! I’ll post the rest of my goals later when I think of them. 🙂
